The Programmer Analyst is responsible for analyzing, designing, implementing, documenting, reviewing, and testing of complex functions, modules, and programs created in one or more designated programming languages. Typically, this position works with little direct supervision. This position may coach other team members on development techniques and standards.

This position will work in a team environment with other members from the CCCS-IT department. This position will provide technical support and problem solving for a variety of application and technical issues working closely with the Customer Support Team, other CCCS-IT teams and other developers as required.

The Programmer Analyst will participate in project planning development by facilitating and tracking the definition of a project scope, goals, deliverables, tasks, risks and resource requirements.  Understand their obligations and responsibilities as part of a project team. This position will collaborate closely with Project Managers. 

Minimum Educational Requirements and Substitution (if appropriate)

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related area
  • Relevant education/experience in the appropriate technical may be considered as a substitute for formal education

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Two years of experience in developing complex applications using Java, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
  • Working knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts and methods
  • Experience with relational databases and relational database design
  • Proven understanding of Software Development Life Cycle(s) and various Methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, SCRUM, XP)
  • Familiarity with version control tools, such as Git, SVN
  • Familiarity with IDEs such as IntelliJ or Eclipse
  • Experience writing shell scripts
  • Ability to communicate, document, plan, and organize

Preferred Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in developing complex applications using Java, C#, HTML, XML, and Oracle PL/SQL
  • Familiarity with web technologies such as CSS, JavaScript, web markup language standards, Groovy/Grails, JQuery, AJAX, and .Net
  • Experience with application customization and integration
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner
  • Project management experience, and ability to become proficient with CCCS-IT project management processes
  • Experience with web application supporting infrastructure such as Apache Tomcat, Oracle WebLogic and JVM environments
  • Experience working within a Higher Education environment
  • Experience designing/developing RESTful APIs web services and middle-tier code in Java
  • Ability to understand the interaction of different components of a complex software system, and to integrate with other systems
  • Experience with Linux
  • Ability to evaluate software provided by vendor and provide feedback
  • Familiar with common software design patterns
